An American Samoa man has been sentenced to seven years in jail with a 28-months non-parole period, after being found guilty of the stabbing death of his cousin.
Michael Schuster, 21, was also fined $US 5,000 after pleading manslaughter in a plea agreement, for the death of Aiesi Natuitasina last August.
Schuster said he could never take back what he did, and what happened was out of anger, and completely out of character.
His lawyer Sharron Rancourt said her client did try to hide the crime on the night, but called police and entered a plea soon after.
Prosecutor Russel Smith said the apology Schuster gave in court was one of the most genuine statements of remorse he had heard.
However he said the court needed to deliver a just sentence that fitted the crime of manslaughter.
