Dozens of police officers in the Papua New Guinea Highlands centre of Tari have been arrested and charged with various offences.

The Post Courier reports the arrests came as the PNG police hierarchy cracked down on ill-discipline.
The Tari police station commander Daniel Yangen said 26 police personnel had been arrested and charged with criminal offence such as theft, assault, alcohol-related and firearms offences.
He said there would be more police arrested and charged in coming weeks.
Furthermore, another 22 police men and women will be put off the payroll for disciplinary breaches.
Mr Yangen told media that Tari and the wider Hela provincial police command merely followed strict orders to uphold discipline as required by the police commissioner Gari Baki.
