The Papua New Guinea opposition says the government has more immediate worries before focussing on the Elk Antelope liquified natural gas project in Gulf.

Opposition leader Don Polye says the state should first meet its obligation to infrastructure developments and law and order before committing to another LNG project.

He says the prime minister and his petroleum and energy minister must learn the lessons from the first LNG project to avoid any other similar problems when the second one comes into full operation.

Mr Polye says it is a shame Peter O'Neill is quickly pushing for the development of the Elk Antelope project when the landowner issues of the first project are still unresolved.
