Worries in CNMI as foreign workers visas expire

2:49 pm on 31 December 2015

Northern Marianas business operators are worried about how their businesses will keep operating from tonight with about 2,000 foreign workers' permits expiring.

Most workers in the CNMI's private businesses are foreigners on CW-1 visas and a significant number, expiring at midnight tonight, have not been renewed.

The businesses say their operations could come to a halt if they lose their experienced and skilled workforce.

The CNMI, with a population of 54,000, has more than 12,000 foreigners in its workforce.
