The Northern Marianas' Attorney General's Office has told the Senate that amendments to Saipan's casino law made by the House of Representatives could lead to corruption.
The attorney general, Edward Manibusan, says the proposed law change would grant the Commonwealth Casino Commission extraordinarily broad exceptions to the Open Government Act.
He says it would free the commission from oversight and make it a prime target for corruption.
The attorney general says one planned change would allow gambling in any of the facilities owned by the casino licensee, meaning the licensee could conduct gambling anywhere in the Northern Marianas.
