Papua New Guinea suffered a second heavy defeat in as many days at the Under 19 Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Malaysia.

A day after Nepal thrashed the Garamuts by nine wickets, PNG slumped to a 111 run defeat against Ireland.

Jack Dairi, Nou Toua and Sinaka Arua each picked up two wickets as the Irish posted a sizeable 271 all-out in 48 overs.

Both PNG openers fell cheaply before Sere Sam steadied the ship with two 50-plus partnerships for the third and fifth wickets.

The Garamuts were well placed at 145 for 4 before Sam's dismissal for a game-high 68 triggered a batting collapse, with PNG's final six wickets falling for just 15 runs.

Papua New Guinea are bottom of the standings after two rounds, alongside Uganda, who they face later today.
