Police in the Papua New Guinea city of Madang have confirmed at least one death from gun shot wounds during Tuesday's riots.
The Provincial Police Commander says they have also had reports of a second death.
Asian-owned shops, which make up three quarters of the commercial sector, are closed today as a precaution.
Up to 500 people rioted and looted mainly Asian shops in apparent anger at their dominance commerce in the city.
Orginally a smaller group had planned to protest against alleged land grabs and capitalism.
