Sport: Samoa counting down to Youth Commonwealth Games

There are now less than 100 days until 1500 athletes and officials descend on Samoa for the fifth Commonwealth Youth Games.

Competitors from 69 countries will contest nine sports over five days from September the fifth.

Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, who is chair of the organising committee says,

the whole country has banded together to prepare to welcome and host the athletes, officials, dignitaries, supporters and visitors.

Tuilaepa, who is also Minister of Finance, has allocated $5 million Tala to fund the event in the budget tabled earlier this week.

Athletes aged 14 to 18 years old will compete in swimming, archery, athletics, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby sevens, squash, tennis and weightlifting.
