The Papua New Guinea and Australian governments are working together to lift the rate of successful prosecutions in PNG.

In a statement the PNG government says it wants to ensure that criminals are punished and communities are safer.

A workshop last month was driven by the public prosecutor, Pondros Kaluwin, who was concerned at a drop in the number of criminal matters committed for trial in the District Courts over the past three years.

He says they brought together all relevant parties and are committed to help find solutions so that justice services for Papua New Guineans can be improved.
