Cricket PNG says it's grateful for the continued support of Australia in its rise up the cricketing ranks, as the two countries try to lock down dates for a future series.
Australia won the one-day World Cup at the weekend, beating New Zealand by seven wickets in the final at the MCG.
The Trans-Tasman neighbours, along with the ICC, have committed US$400,000 to a facilities fund for teams in the East Asia-Pacific region.
Cricket Australia Chair Wally Edwards visited PNG last year and Barramundi's head coach Dipak Patel says they've been a great support.
"He came and spent a few days here in Port Moresby and had a look around at our organisation and our facilities. He went away well impressed and certainly spoke to me
very closely about the fact they want to help us as much as they can. You can't get any better opportunity than playing against Australia and more so through our development programmes they assist us with, whether it be financially or in resources they can put forward for us. There isn't many countries around the world who would have those opportunities presented to them".
PNG's immediate focus is qualifying for next year's T20 World Cup in India but officials are also due to hold talks with their Australian counterparts about scheduling some ODI matches in the future.
