Tropical Storm Bavi has made its closest approach to the Northern Marianas on Rota but the southernmost island of the group was spared from any major damage.

Aside from toppled trees and a few blown away roofs, Bavi's strong winds did not exact a heavy toll on the islands' infrastructure.

Public and private schools will resume normal operations today. (Tues)

The special assistant for Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Marvin Seman, says the all-clear signal was given for the CNMI yesterday.

By Monday afternoon, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation also restored electric power to 80 percent of Saipan.

Departing and arriving flights also resumed.

By Monday evening, Bavi was moving west towards the Philippines and is expected to weaken and could be downgraded to a tropical depression tonight.
