Nauru tackles climate change

11:41 am on 4 March 2015

The Nauru government has released its Framework for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Environment Minister Aaron Cook says implementation of the document will guide the government in building a productive, healthy and sustainable Nauru.

Mr Cook says it will do this by helping them tackle vulnerabilities and increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change and natural disasters.

The document aims to clearly set out priorities and provide a framework for longer term planning and programming.

Mr Cook says Nauru has many challenges relating to its isolation, limited land mass and environmental degradation.

The minister says successful implementation will be heavily dependent on resources being made available by external development partners to supplement limited domestic funds.
