The chief operating officer, Joe Hamby, for the parent company Tri marine International says the last remaining components are scheduled to arrive on the next vessel due from the mainland.

Canning activity is now due to start at the end of this month.

For now staff at the cannery are working to complete the plant and are currently running samples and testing equipment.

Mr Hamby says over the next couple of weeks the size of the production runs will increase as STP continues commissioning the lines.

He adds that the daily volumes will increase slowly.

About 250 workers are currently employed in maintenance, receiving fish, and the company's frozen fish loining and packaging operation.
