Vanuatu tackles school dropouts issue

7:53 am on 19 February 2015

The Vanuatu government has launched a committee to address the high rate of school dropouts in the country.

Vanuatu joined the program 'Out of School Children' which already covers 58 countries around the world.

The Director of Policy and Planning, Joe Narua, says as part of the programme the Ministry of Education has formed a committee to collect data on truant students.

"We will come up about trying to find out who those children are, setting up their profiles, then there are other things that will be done that will come in later is to look at the barriers that prevent or stop these children from going on to school, then the third thing is, how now do we include this in our policies."
