The grace period for motions of no-confidence against a Prime Minister has lapsed in Papua New Guinea, as the parliament prepares to resume tomorrow.

While Peter O'Neill has enjoyed a huge majority in the 111-seat parliament since emerging victorious from the 2012 election, recent defections have bolstered the opposition as an opportunity to attempt to oust the Prime Minister opens up.
The deputy opposition leader Sam Basil says plenty of disgruntled backbenchers have felt forced to support the government in order to access district funds.
He says it's the opposition's hope that these MPs put their thoughts into action.
"From the opposition, we've been calling for changes since the formation of government because we know who Peter O'Neill is, we know what he's capable of and now, tactically, in the last two and a half years he's displayed his quality and his quality is not good enough so we're expecting a change. Should there be one, it will happen first half of this year."
