Vanuatu plans for public service improvements

8:27 pm on 4 February 2015

Vanuatu's public service chairman Kanam Wilson hopes mismanagement in the public service can be overcome by a scheme called the Performance Management System.

This Australian government funded initiative is managed by the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration at the University of the South Pacific in Suva.

Programme advisers from the USP, Henry Khaisum and Eva Tavai, are in Port Vila to facilitate briefing sessions with public service directors and directors general, on how to appraise staff on their performance.

Mr. Wilson says this will bring professional time management into the public service and phase out abuse of government resources.

Mr. Wilson says it will also identify non performers and allow retraining.
