Palau is to receive a renewable energy project valued at up to five million US dollars from the United Arab Emirates.

The Marianas Variety reports that under a grant from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, technical experts will work with Palau Public Utilities Corporation to set up a 100 kW solar photovoltaic installation.

They will also deploy two 75 kW low-load diesel generators in order to maximize the amount of solar energy fed into the grid, and build a water treatment system capable of producing 50 cubic meters of potable water per day.

In addition to the projects for Peleliu and Angaur, the UAE is providing support to the National Development Bank of Palau to reinstate its popular Renewable Energy Subsidy Loan Program.

Up to one hundred 1.7 kW solar systems will be made available for this effort to connect homes and small businesses to the grid in Koror.
