PNG policeman charged with murder

A Papua New Guinea policeman has been charged with the wilful murder of a woman in a high-speed car chase through the streets of Lae on New Year's Eve.

The Post Courier reports Jack Baria was charged and remanded in custody.

He has been suspended from duty.

Moana Pisimi was shot in the back of the head during the high speed chase, which stirred controversy over how Lae police handled the investigation into one of their own officers.

In the end, Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki sent a team of detectives from Port Moresby to investigate.
