Sport: Viriviri and Maisileuva return to boost Fiji Sevens team

Fiji sevens coach Ben Ryan says the return of Samisoni Viriviri and Benito Masilevu will provide a welcome boost to their World Series campaign.

The duo have been included in a 20-man training squad for the Wellington and Las Vegas tournaments and will make the final cut provided they can prove their fitness next week.

Viriviri joined French club Montpellier last year after being named IRB Sevens Player of the Year, while Masilevu signed for Top 14 rivals Brive.

Ben Ryan says he keeps in touch with a number of Fiji players overseas and says the duo are just what the team needs right now.

"Under IRB regulations they're available for every tournament and qualification so I could bring them in for each of the remaining tournaments. I'm being fairly pragmatic about that - you just make your communication simple and early and stick to the regulations and the rules and we will get the players that we need when we need this year. I've got to say I'm still relying hugely on the local players but I just felt at this point I needed these two to come in to add some competition and some depth in trying to get us to that next stage in these next two tournaments".
