The police officer who was injured in a shooting in American Samoa has been discharged from the LBJ Hospital and preparations are being made to send him off island to remove pellets that are still lodged in his body.

Police officer Time Loia was in a vehicle with two others when the shooting occurred early Monday morning in the Lepuapua-Leone area.

The other officers in the vehicle were not hurt.

Officer Loia received injuries to his head, shoulder and chest area and an operation the same morning removed about 5 pellets from his body.

However according to a family member several pellets are still in his head area and could not be taken out.

He says hospital officials have agreed to refer the officer Loia off island to remove the remaining pellets.

Our correspondent says no arrests have been made.
