Vanuatu to chair key ACP body

8:16 pm on 18 December 2014

Vanuatu is to take up the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the African Caribbean and Pacific group of nations that receive aid from Europe.

The foreign affairs minister, Sato Kilman, who has just returned from the 100th session of the ACP ministers in Brussels, says Vanuatu was chosen under the established rotational process.

It will be the first time that Vanuatu has headed the Council of Ministers for the 79 member body.

Its role will run from next February until August.

Mr Kilman, says it is an opportunity for Vanuatu to project more visibility within the group and to push for more prominence on issues such as the kava trade.
