The measure, the Financial Resolution bill, is being overseen by the prime minister, Manasseh Sogavare, who is acting as finance minister with the portfolio still to be filled.

A spokesperson says an announcement of who will fill that position and the police portfolio is expected on Friday.

It is understood that two MPs Mathew Wale and Snyder Rini are vying to head finance.
