A Guam senator is trying to have legislation giving lawmakers and governors over 40% pay rises repealed.
The Pacific Daily News reports that Senator Michael San Nicolas is behind the move.
Last month all but one of the Legislature voted for a boost in annual salaries of the governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet members and senators based on recommendations from the Competitive Wage Act of 2014.
An initial attempt to have the law changed back failed by Mr San Nicolas but he is vowing to try again at the next session.
He says he wonders how wage increases can occur when the government is having funding issues with various agencies and the transit system is underfunded with roads in need of repair.
Mr San Nicolas says, although his bill had minimal support, he would like to hear input from the new senators who will be part of the upcoming Legislature.
Four new senators will be sworn in next month.
