Fiji poised to get more seasonal jobs in NZ

6:55 am on 8 December 2014

Representatives of the New Zealand government will be in Fiji this week to sign an agreement to hire people for seasonal work.

FBC News reports a pilot project is expected to begin in February with about 30 Fijians going to New Zealand.

Those chosen will be placed in horticulture and viticulture.

Fiji had been excluded from New Zealand's seasonal work employment schemes in a reaction to the last military coup.

New Zealand hires several thousand Pacific Island seasonal workers each year, most of them from Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa.
