Two escape from Vanuatu container jail

In Vanuatu two high risk prisoners have escaped from the so called Container City jail funded and built with New Zealand aid.

One of the men had been jailed for the murder of his pregnant wife and the other for theft.

The Correctional Service manager Jimmy Marango says the two men removed the screws of the metal floors of their cells, crawled out and then made it through the razor wire fence around the complex.

Mr. Marango says the staff on duty during the breakout will be penalised.

He is appealing to chiefs in the communities to work with police to catch the prisoners.
