The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawai'i said there was no tsunami threat as a result of the earthquake that struck at a depth of 52 kilometres at about 12pm local time.

The Post Courier reports that while there are no immediate reports of damage, the quake was strong enough to have levelled unstable buildings.
