A Saipan-wide power blackout over the weekend is being blamed on an 18-inch rat.
All of Saipan was without power for three hours early on Saturday morning.
The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation says an 18-inch rodent caused a short and arc flash explosion in the main substation transformer at Power Plant 1.
Repair crews were immediately sent on site to assess and replace damaged equipment.
