Samoan rugby league captain Dave Fa'alogo insists his side is not in the Four Nations to make up the numbers.

Samoan rugby league captain Dave Fa'alogo insists his side is not in the Four Nations to make up the numbers.

He told Rugby league week it is why the players were crestfallen after their 32-26 loss to England in the tournament opener at Suncorp Stadium.

Samoa had not got closer than 22 points before to the top three sides in a loss.

But Fa'alogo says that is no consolation.

Coach Matt Parish says the team's close loss to England provides them with a lot of incentive ahead of the clash with New Zealand.

Parish says the second half in particular showed they can compete with the kiwis who upset Australia the same night.

Parish says it will be full steam ahead this weekend with the any Pacific Island against the Kiwis always being a good clash.

Samoa plays New Zealand on Saturday in Whangarei.
