A 54 year old Fiji man has been jailed for two years for impersonating an elections official while seeking signatures to register a proposed political party, the Activist People's Party.

Paula Maraivalu committed the offences in the Western Division in July.

In sentencing Maraivalu, the Lautoka Magistrate said he had shamefully used the integrity of the officers of the Election Office to obtain an undue advantage and the crime he committed was inexcusable and intolerable.
