American Samoa government seeks farmers advice

10:09 am on 23 October 2014

Farmers in American Samoa are being asked how the government can best assist them in helping improve economic development.

The governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says food security is a priority, and it will focus on increasing the role of the agriculture department.

But he says it's the administration's policy to let the private sector assume the dominant role in the development of the territory.

He says he's set a discussion forum with the farners at the end of the week, and has invited nine cabinet members to attend the meeting to answer any of the farmers questions.

Lolo says its necessary to host the forum so farmers can explain what services the government should provide to help them to improve production and sustainability of agricultural produce.
