ACP-EU conference cancelled for good reason

The European Union's Ambassador to Solomon Islands says he's sorry that next month's ACP-EU conference planned for Vanuatu has been cancelled, but it was for good reason.

Vanuatu's Prime Minister, Joe Natuman, this week announced that the meeting between African, Caribbean and Pacific nations with members of the European Parliament was called off because of concerns over Ebola.

The gathering was to be attended by delegates from western Africa, which is currently gripped by an Ebola outbreak.

Leonidas Tezapsidis, whose jurisdiction includes Vanuatu, says the decision to call off the ACP-EU meeting was agreed upon by all sides for good reason.

"I'm sorry for this cancellation, obviously the Vanuatu authorities together with the European partners had their good reasons, and I'm sorry because of all the work that has been put into preparing it and obviously there is going to be an impact on Port Vila - the hotels and all the institutions that have been involved."

Leonidas Tezapsidis says it's up to all members to decide when the next conference will be held.
