An Indonesian Government official says the huge Freeport copper and gold mine can resume open-pit mining at its Grasberg complex in Papua.
Hundreds of angry protesters blocked access for two days earlier this month to the open-pit area, where production had been halted following the deaths of four workers late last month.
Reuters reports that Indonesia's mine ministry investigated the accident and asked the Arizona-based firm to propose safety changes and policies.
The company is now required to implement four key safety improvements at the Papua mine.
