Sport: Tongan football champions still alive in OFC Preliminary

Lotoha'apai United football coach Fetu Vea says keeping things simple was the key to Thursday's 4-1 victory against American Samoa's FC Samoan Korean Baptist Church in the Oceania Champions League Preliminary.

The result keeps alive the Tongan champions' slim hopes of qualifying for the O-League main draw.

Lupe Ole Soago still top the standings in Apia after coming from behind to beat Puaikura FC from the Cook Islands 3-2.

Lupe have a maximum six points with one round remaining, three clear of Lotoha'apai, who must beat Puaikura on Saturday afternoon and hope the Samoan champions suffer their first defeat.

Fetu Vea accepts they're likely to come up short yet again but was pleased with the improvement his players showed.

"Totally different from what we displayed on the first day of the tournament. I think what we were doing yesterday was back to basics and they played to what I expected [them] to do. For future I think we will try and sort it out something that we can put our best performances in every game".
