Sport: Talavalu sevens coach demands improvement

American Samoa sevens coach Setefano Fata says his players need to step up this weekend in their World Series Sevens debut on the Gold Coast.

The Talavalu competed in the core-team qualifier event in Hong Kong earlier this year but have never been involved in a full IRB Series tournament.

They warmed up by finishing eighth in the Oceania Championship at Noosa over the weekend and Setefano Fata says there's plenty of room for improvement.

"We play well the first day of the Oceania and then second day the boys performance were below par. I guess this is a good chance for us to prepare for this tournament coming up. I think that's a good chance for us to play with the big guns".

American Samoa is in the same pool as Wales, Kenya and Commonwealth Games champions South Africa.
