The Health Minister in Bougainville in Papua New Guinea says the mental health of people who have been affected by the Bougainville crisis needs to be given more attention by both the provincial and national governments.

Rose Pihei says the autonomous province's health department is facing a lot of mental health cases as a lot of issues are still affecting people in Bougainville over a decade after the end of the civil war.

The newspaper, The National, reports Ms Pihei saying those mentally affected had not lived normal lives since the crisis and that it was in the leaders' hands to address the issue.
