SPTO awaits Fiji tourism vision

The head of the regional tourism organisation says Fiji's tourism stakeholders are anxiously awaiting to hear the newly elected government's vision for tourism over the next four years.

The South Pacific Tourism Organisation's chief executive, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, says many families in Fiji rely on tourism for their livelihood.

Mr Vuidreketi says a keyword in any election is bread and butter and tourism would have to rank high in Fiji in within that context.

He says only last week a tourism operator in the remote Yasawa Islands pleaded with government to think of the small medium enterprise operators who contributed to their local economies.
