The Samoan Minister of Education has officially opened a centre to develop distance learning at the University of the South Pacific's Laucala Campus.

The Pacific Centre for Flexible and Open Learning for Development will gain funding and governance from the Commonwealth of Learning.

The USP's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rajesh Chandra, says there are enormous opportunities for Pacific countries to gain from new technologies and partnerships in education.

The Director of the new centre, Hasmukh Lal, says he has a passion for flexible learning which has transformed his life and he hopes the centre can do the same for thousands of others in the Pacific.
