Fiji cabinet to be sworn in

4:42 am on 24 September 2014

Fiji's Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama is to announce his cabinet today, seven days after his FijiFirst party swept to victory in the first election in eight years.

The cabinet is to be sworn in at a ceremony in Suva.

Sally Round reports.

"The Prime Minister will make his choice from 31 MPs, seven of whom have held ministerial posts in the previous government. A quarter of the government MPs are former military officers and yesterday the military hosted them to a tea party to celebrate their election to parliament. The government benches also include several lawyers, business people, former civil servants and a paralympian gold medallist. Only a couple have served in parliament before. The cabinet will be sworn in at Government House this afternoon."
