Vanuatu still to choose president

5:47 am on 22 September 2014

Vanuatu's Electoral College is today again due to meet to elect a new President.

There have been several attempts to choose a new head of state since Wednesday to find a successor to Iolu Johnson Abil.

The frontrunner has been a former clerk of parliament, Lino Bulekuli dit Saksak, who was however well short of the 38 needed to be elected.

There have been calls for the 52 MPs and six governors to hasten a decision because running the Electoral College is costly.

The bill for each session is said to be about 4,000 US dollars.
