Seven political parties in Solomon Islands have applied for registration under the new Political Parties Integrity Act.
The new law came into effect in June and aims to stabilise politics following frequent changes of government.
The Registrar of the Political Parties Commission, Calvin Ziru, says it will take two weeks to certify the various groupings which can then begin campaigning for the elections at a date yet to be set.
"I think at this point in time, there is a lot of excitement on the ground, in terms of the political parties. For us its a very exciting process to see unfold and our hope, is to see political parties progress on from where they are currently, to actually forming government and shaping policies for the country."
