2:32 pm on 5 September 2014

A new passenger catamaran ferry for the American Samoa Government arrived in Pago Pago early yesterday morning.

The vessel, which was built in Washington state at a cost of 800,000 US dollars, will be used to transport cargo and passengers between the Manu'a island group in American Samoa.

A dedication service is scheduled for today before the boat sails to Manu'a islands.

The vessel, which can carry about 25 passengers and travel at speeds of 20 to 25 knots, has already undergone US Coast Guard safety inspection.
