Samoa moves to tackle chikungunya

8:07 am on 22 August 2014

A mass clean up campaign gets underway in Samoa today to stop the spread of the mosquito-borne chikungunya disease.

School principals have been told to work with students to clear all areas around school buildings and compounds where mosquitoes can breed.

In different parts of the Apia town area, government ministries and corporations will be working to clear those areas.

The Samoa Director of Health, Leausa Toleafoa Dr Take Naseri, has also urged all villages to support the campaign and to continue with their clean up routines.

Leausa says the number of chikungunya cases is increasing.
