4:58 pm on 18 August 2014

An American Samoan man accused of sex crimes against women he brought in from Samoa as domestic workers has pleaded guilty to several charges in a plea deal.

58-year-old Hanipale Malae had two criminal cases against him and both were settled under one plea agreement approved by the High Court last week.

Malae admits sponsoring a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old to American Samoa in the spring of 2013 to do housework for his family.

The defendant admits he kissed the 15 year old and touched her sexually.

Malae also admits to forcing the 20 year old to having sex with him.

He also admits that after his arrest, he had his wife bring him a cell phone in jail which he used to call a third complaining witness, to have her ask the two women from Samoa to recant their police statements.

Malae, who remains in custody, will be sentenced on September the 19th.
