Taiwan reprimands top officer over Solomons incident

Taiwan's state news agency says a Navy Rear Admiral has been reprimanded for his behaviour during a visit to Solomon Islands last April.

The Central News Agency reports that Lee Tung-fang has been transferred for speaking indiscreetly while drunk at a dinner in Honiara.

It says the Navy has issued a release to say Real Admiral Lee had reflected on his conduct and apologised to relevant parties.

It also says there was no inappropriate behaviour of the kind suggested in media reports.

The Navy says it will step up campaigns for all officers to keep themselves in check to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

It says the Navy had been on a 45-day goodwill tour to Palau, Solomon Islands and Kiribati, which are all diplomatic allies of Taiwan.
