Kerry on brief Solomons visit

The American Secretary of State, John Kerry, is today briefly visiting Solomon Islands.

In Honiara, he will attend wreath-laying ceremonies at the Guadalcanal American Memorial and Solomon Scouts and Coastwatchers Memorial to remember those who died in the Second World War.

The US ambassador, who is based in Papua New Guinea, Walter North has told the Solomon Star that the visit reflects the US's enduring commitment to the people of the Pacific.

Mr Kerry is also due to meet the Solomon Islands Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

The US Secretary of State will later fly to Hawai'i.
