Lae MP Kouza under fire from local PNG leaders

1:48 pm on 13 August 2014

The chairman of the new Lae City Commission in Papua New Guinea, Loujaya Kouza, has been criticised by local level government figures for allegedly acting like a dictator.

Lae mayor Koim Trillu Leahy and Ahi local level government council president Sam Agi say they have been sidelined by Ms Kouza in recent consultations about allocations of public money designated for their area.

The Post Courier reports they were also overlooked by Ms Kouza, who is a government MP, for inclusion in a Lae local level councillors junket to Port Moresby which the pair describe as an outrageous extravagance.

The Morobe Province Governor Kelly Naru says he supports the criticism and has scolded Ms Kouza for not being transparent about things like district committee meetings.
