Sport: Tabakaucoro, Wisil qualify for 200m semis

Pacific sprint stars Banuve Tabakaucoro and Toea Wisil have advanced to the 200m semi finals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Fiji's Tabakaucoro ran a season best time of 21.04 seconds to qualify for Friday morning's semi finals at Hampden Park.

The 21 year old was second in his heat, while Papue New Guinea's Nelson Stone was seventh in 21.51 seconds.

PNG's Wisil is through to the women's 200m semis after a fourth placed finish in her heat in a time of 24.26 seconds.

Patricia Taea from the Cook Islands was seventh in the same heat in 26.14 seconds, while PNG's Shirley Vunatup ran a personal best 25.79 in her effort.

Papua New Guinea hurdler Mowen Boino was disqualified in his 400m heat, while Samoa's Siologa Viliamu Sepa did not start.

Meanwhile Niuean teenager Jinnam Hopotoa set a new national record of 40.32m in the men's discus qualifiers.
