Talks over Fiji's return to Commonwealth

2:12 pm on 25 July 2014

Fiji and Britain are in talks about Fiji's return to the Commonwealth.

In a statement, the Fiji government announced President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau met Britain's Minister of State, Hugo Swire, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Fiji was suspended from the Commonwealth in September 2009 after Fiji refused to bow to demands to call elections by October 2010.

Prime Minister Rear Admiral Frank Bainimarama had then stated that elections in 2010 would be premature.
