CNMI House approves $134m budget

4:19 pm on 23 July 2014

The Northern Marianas House of Representatives has passed a 134-million dollar budget for the 2015 fiscal year.

After his colleagues passed the expenditure plan, the Speaker of the House, Joseph Guerrero, said he was hoping the Senate wouldn't duplicate unnecessary debate as budget hearings have already been held.

The Governor Eloy Inos' proposed 2015 budget of 134 million is lower than last year's budget of 135 million, following the governor's signing of a 12-million dollar supplemental budget law.

Should the Senate not pass the budget by October the 1st, the government is required to shut down until a spending measure is passed and signed.
