About 80 jobs are expected to be lost at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, mostly in the corporation's Asia-Pacific service.
The vast majority of the jobs will be at the ABC's Asia Pacific New Centre in Melbourne, with journalists, producers, technical and communications staff affected by the announcement.
The cuts are a result of the Australian government's decision to scrap the international TV Service, Australia Network, as well as 1 percent budget cut for the ABC.
Radio Australia will also be affected as some content is used for both services.
Fairfax media reports that ABC staff were stunned by the number of redundancies, which was more than was expected.
The president of the Community and Public Sector Union Michael Tull says more redundancies are possible.
